2010 Practice and Game Schedule

This message is being posted to avoid having folks suffer unnecessarily from carple tunnel syndrome resulting from weekly emailing to the league asking what our weekly schedule is (that has been posted under "documents" on the website since March 2010).  Please note that rainouts annouced by the league will be made up the next PRACTICE time slot (auto-rainout policy) for the affected league.  There will be no other make-ups rescheduled other than weather (e.g. coach work issues, player shortages, solar eclipses or conflicts with Lady Gaga concerts).  As such, our schedule is:

5th Grade Kids Needed (POSITIONS HAVE BEEN FILLED - THANKS)
by posted 09/01/2010

Folks,

We have two open spots for 5th grade players that have dropped from the league due to conflicts.  Please contact me or Bruce Balderson (5th grade coordinator) ASAP if you would like to register your child for either of these spots.  The season starts next week but most teams have not yet had their first practice.

All other leagues with the exception of High School are currently filled (looking for more players immediately).  We have several wait listed children for select leagues and if spots come available for other leagues, I will send out an email.  Thanks

Pete Palko

As a personal note, MYFFL puts our weekly schedule up in March of each year on our website to allow parents to plan accordingly and make conscious decisions PRIOR to signing their children up for flag and knowing what it's committments will be prior to evaluating other sports options.  We do this because we respect that folks have choices and to avoid harming teams by last minute drop outs.  Our goal is to create parity in each grade level by spreading talent across all teams so all teams have an equal chance to succeed.

When parents sign their children up to play and then wait until a week before the season to inform us their child will not be playing because something else better came along, it is a major inconvenience to all volunteers involved down to the team's coach not to mention a MAJOR effect on the team that child was drafted by.  To those parents that have a choice, we would greatly appreciate it if such decisions are made BEFORE registering your child so that all the work spent by volunteers is not wasted in the future.

Referee Training
by posted 08/20/2010

Hello Prospective Referees,

A new season of Flag Football is approaching which means we must prepare as officials to be the best aspect of the league.  With good referees there are good games.  With great referees there are great games.  Unfortunately the opposite is also true.  There will be mandatory referee trainings being given on Tuesday August 31st and Thursday September 2nd.  Both trainings will start promptly at  7:00 PM at the Wesley Bishop Fields (The fields where flag football is played).  Please be there on time.  As of this moment there are a little over 60 referees.  Everyone will sign in and the training will start.  YOU MUST ATTEND THE TRAINING TO BE A MYFFL OFFICIAL.  See everyone there.

General Information - Schedules
by posted 08/16/2010

Parents,

If you have any questions regarding practice and game schedules, there are several documents posted on the website to assist you in planning:

1) All game schedules are now uploaded into the system and can be accessed by viewing your team's information

2) Under documents, you can find two items:  a) 2010 practice and game schedule which shows you when each league plays weekly (not coaches may modify practice schedule based on team needs) and b) 2010 game schedule at-a-glance which shows you layout of schedule over next several months

The on-line website will serve as the governing schedule for games, make-ups and updates.  As such, be aware that document versions will not be updated during times of games being rescheduled.

Rain out policy this year will be same as last year.  If game is called due to weather, the auto-makeup policy is the game will be played at the next scheduled practice time slot unless overruled by the league.

Lastly, if you have questions regarding basic team information, contact your coach FIRST before your league coordinator second, and league officials last.  Thanks

Pete

High School League
by posted 08/06/2010

As a follow-up, the High School league is being kept open for several more weeks to allow for late sign-ups into that program prior to team's being developed and assigned.  If you have any questions on this year's program, see other message or contact Dave Lukridge or Mike Connelly directly under contacts.  Thanks!

Sponsorships
by posted 07/29/2010

Parents/Coaches,

Thank you all for registering your child for this year's flag football program.  We are looking forward to another fun filled and safe year of flag.  This week, our league drafts are being conducted where coaches select teams using open and blind draft systems.  Several parents have already volunteered to sponsor a team and others are interested so here is what you need to do:

Team Sponsors ($250) - Team sponsors receive several benefits as follows:  1) Teams that select sponsored children or coaches that sponsor their own children receive a preferred choice of team name at their draft; 2) Sponsor names will be on the back of team jerseys; and 3) Sponsors will be uploaded to our website (logo and blurb) and will be left on for 12 months (see sponsor list currently uploaded).

For sponsor names to be placed on team jerseys, sponsors need to inform the league that they are willing to be a sponsor and send it their check for $250 to the MYFFL, PO BOX 253, Moorestown, NJ 08057 by August 13th so that we can inform the printers.  If multiple sponsors have children on the same team, we will attempt to place both names on the jerseys.

Sponsorship funds all go towards new improved equipment for the kids, as well as a fund for improved fields (irrigation, grass, etc) that we are working with the township on.  We are a non-profit entity in the State of New Jersey.

Thank you again!

High School Flag Division
by posted 07/19/2010

Parents/Kids

To encourage more high school participation this year, former commissioner Mike Connelly and Dave Lukridge have come up with a fun new format for our High School league that enables all participants to play in a new twin season format as follows:

1.     Tournament Style – The “season” would consist of two separate tournament style competitions with each tournament lasting a maximum of (5) weeks.  Game times will be 7:30 pm on Monday nights.  The first tournament will begin on Monday, September 13, 2010 and will end with the championship game on October 11, 2010. The second tournament will begin on October 25, 2010 and will end with the championship on November 22, 2010.  The week off, in between the two tournaments, will be used to conduct a new draft and set new teams for the second tournaments.

2.     Team Captain – The HS Division Coordinator would identify (8) players, who would serve as Team Captains.  A captain would be able to select his/her own Assistant Captain and together they would participate in the division wide draft to select players and fill out their team roster.   The team selection/draft process will be repeated for each of the (2) tournaments and teams will not remain together for both tournaments.  The Team Captain will serve as the point of contact for all team communication regarding practice and game time and/or dates.  The Team Captain is also responsible for identifying a team name and creating a team uniform if desired.  MYFFL can also provide “pinnies” for each team for each game and would provide MYFFL apparel in consideration of registration fees.

3.     Parent Safety Coordinator – The Team Captain must also provide the name and contact information for (1) parent who will act as the Safety Coordinator at any game or practice.  This parent will be responsible for addressing any concerns due to injuries at games or practices and is discouraged from participating as a Coach.  Teams are responsible for coaching themselves.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact either Mike or Dave directly.  Their contact info is shown under contacts.  The high school division registration has been extended to allow for additional participants.

Thanks

Pete Palko
